About Shakhalil

Founder and Designer Salma Elseidik has studied Communications & Media Arts along with Theatre at the American University in Cairo; a choice driven by her passion for acting, singing, dancing, and fashion. Her fascination with belly dancing and musical performances began at a young age, from the very first time she watched a belly dancer in an Egyptian black and white movie. Her obsession with collecting belly dance suits and belts to style them with her outfits pushed her to start Shakhalil.

Inspired by the mysterious and alluring art of dancing, Shakhalil is a clothing brand that empowers the authentic, eccentric, and feminine side of a woman. Heavily inspired by the way women move in society with fortitude, dismissing the patriarchal gaze, Shakhalil creates pieces that accentuate the power of females, isolating, shimmying and hip-hitting everything that gets in her way.
